I haven't been so conflicted over my feelings for a book in a while.

I have had my eye on this book for a while. I am definitely one of those people who will read a book because I find the cover and/or title somewhat attractive in some way. This book falls into that category. For whatever reason, I felt myself drawn to it over and over. However, I'd read mixed reviews for it, and I already have a thousand (more than that, really) books in my TBR pile, so I was hesitant to buy it.

I got the book from the library, and I couldn't keep count of how many times I vacillated between continuing to read and simply DNFing the book. In the end, I decided to finish the book. I was happier to see the end of the book than I was to actually experience the ending.

This book isn't bad, but it also isn't great. It's possible that I set myself up because I wanted it to be a great book.

I found the characters less than compelling. I could take them or leave them. The back story was interesting, and the author did a good job of building a very complex world. For me, however, it seemed like it was built a little too slowly. I think that pacing, honestly, was my biggest problem with this whole book.

This is, essentially, a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, so you may like it if you like retellings of that particular story. I will warn you, though, that I found the book to simply be dragging by in many parts. In fact, I finally resorted to doing a great deal of skimming paragraphs in search of anything that was important or fundamental to the story at all.

I finished this one, but I don't think I'll read the others, not even as library books.

I'm including the link, as I always do, in case you want to have a look at the book. I do not make any money off the sales of this book.
