This was a quick and easy read on the one hand. The language used was pretty easy, and the story grabbed me well enough that I didn't ever get too bogged down (though there were definitely some moments where I simply had to stop for a minute.)
On the other hand, this was a very, very dark read. I knew that it was advertised as a dark book, but I didn't expect it to be quite so dark.
I thought this was a YA book, and it is written with what I would consider YA language, but some of the themes and such are, honestly, a little over what I would advertise as purely YA. If you're giving this to teens/pre-teens, you should be aware that it's pretty heavy on dark sex/rape scenarios.
There were certainly some parts where I thought that it would be entirely inappropriate for young teens to read, and I could certainly see where it could be very triggering for some. I am one of those people who really promotes reading for young people, and I do believe that "anything" is OK for the right reader, but I also believe that we have to be aware of what material is right for what reader.
For myself, however, I did enjoy the book. I am definitely going to read the second one at some point.
I'm including the link, in case you want to read it! I receive nothing from the sales of the book.
