I got this book in December of 2020 as one of those free books that you get from the websites that share great book deals with you. I always assume that most of the free books come from authors who are trying to promote their books by getting them out there to a wider audience with the hope that people will read, review, and recommend their books. I'm sure that, ultimately, they also want people to buy more of their books.
I always snag anything that looks interesting to me, and I always review anything that I read. I opened this book up about a year ago, but I never started reading. It's sat on my Kindle since then. Last year, it seems, I decided that I wasn't going to read Christmas books after the season had passed. This year, I've decided that I'm not going to be governed by any sort of "seasonal" restrictions. (However, it's still the Christmas season.)
I decided to read this book, this year, as part of my "getting in the Christmas spirit by reading a bunch of Christmas themed books" kick. I'm so glad that I read it!
This book is part of a series. I didn't read any of the previous books, and that didn't seem to matter at all. I was almost immediately sucked into the story, and everything that I didn't know already was somewhat explained enough for me to follow along. This story was, in some ways, three stories combined into one. On the surface, it was the story of Pru and Gramma Finnie's adventure (which I won't spoil), but it was also a bit of the story of Pru's parents' wedding. In addition, it was the genesis of the love story between Gramma Finnie and her husband.
Every single layer of this book was adorable. Immediately upon finishing it, I went looking to see what the next book in the series was about. I didn't really have a desire to go back and read what I'd missed (since it really felt unnecessary, and I was able to fill in enough gaps of my own), but I was anxious to move forward with these characters. That, however, is where my disappointment comes in. The next book in this series switches gears to follow another family member, but it doesn't move forward with what I would view as the next "piece" of this actual story. As a result, I won't be purchasing the next one in the series. I will, however, remember this one, fondly, as a sweet little Christmas read.
If you're interested in the book, here's the link to the amazon page where you can purchase the book. (This is not a sponsored link. I receive nothing from this, it's just my honest review of the book and a link so that you can check it out if you're interested.)
