I stumbled upon this book somewhat accidentally. They offered the second book in the series on sale (in one of my ebook emails), and I went to check it out. I've never seen the show, though I'd heard it mentioned. I didn't, however, know what it was about.
As a fan of the Hannibal Lecter series, this caught my attention because of some of the similarities between Dexter's philosophy and Hannibal's feelings about killing certain people.
I bought the second book on sale, but I wanted to read the first book, first. As I normally do, I checked my library to see if they had a copy. They did (though they don't have the second in the series, so it was lucky that I bought it). I read it, and now I'm hooked!
I would definitely recommend that you hang on through the first one or two chapters. For me, the set-up was kind of slow and, after a streak of bookish disappointments, I was almost ready to DNF it with the sorrowful feeling that I wasn't going to ever find anything interesting again. I'm glad, now, that I realized I was just being dramatic (and maybe a little hungry, at the time) because this book was very interesting and entertaining. I finished it, returned it to the library, and immediately loaded the second on my Kindle to start reading it. The library has several others in the series, so I imagine that I'll be reading those as I get to them.
The book is dark, but it's also humorous (dark humor). It's well-written, and it's a nice, easy, and quick read. The "mystery" holds your attention, and I was surprised by the ending. I really can't say anything negative about it, beyond the fact that it did take me a chapter or two to be sold on the whole thing.
I highly recommend this book! I get nothing from the sales of the book, but I do recommend it. Enjoy!
