This is a book that I could use to talk about massive disappointments in my reading adventures.

I bought this book back at the start of the pandemic (which has now become a way for us to date things, I suppose) on my Kindle. I let it sit for a while because, basically, I never got around to it.

I recently got around to it.

I wanted to love this book. I really did. I thought it was going to be great. I thought it was going to be my next nerdy obsession.

Let me begin by saying that the premise of the book is wonderful. The synopsis grabbed me from the start. Unfortunately, that's about where the "wonderful" for the book ended. The characters fell sort of flat. The eighties references seemed to just be in there, but they didn't really seem to matter. There were several moments where it just felt a little like those competitions where people try to one-up each other with their knowledge about some rather obscure topic. All in all, I wasn't impressed.

I admit that I DNFed this book. It's in my "maybe later" folder, now, in my Kindle collections. Maybe I'll read it later, to give it another chance, but I'm not really expecting that to be something that happens anytime soon.

I'm including the link in case anyone wants to give it a chance and see if it's the five-star book for you, instead of the one-or-two-star book that I found it to be. Of course, I receive nothing from the sales of this book.
