I like the idea of Captain Proton from Star Trek Voyager, so I thought I would like this book. I thought it would be something different, too, from the Star Trek novels that I typically read. I was right that it was something different.

I do think that the author was fairly accurate when trying to create a written version of those campy old shows where everything is just one crazy adventure after another while the hero (seemingly against all odds, but never in any real danger) overcomes everything to rescue the damsel in distress. That's exactly what this book is, it's just in written form. With that in mind, I might be willing to say it's a "great" book.

On the other hand, it was just too much, and it wasn't very interesting. It was decent for a bedtime story, but that was just because it was boring enough that I felt my eyelids struggling to stay up while I was reading it.

On the whole, I can't recommend this book. I only paid 99 cents for it during one of the monthly Star Trek novel sales, so I'm not too angry about it, but I would be really irritated if I'd paid full price.

I don't believe in continuing to read books that I don't enjoy (since life is short and I have a ton of books to read), so I DNFed this book at around 25%.

I'm including the link (though I'm not being paid) in case you want the book (or want to avoid it entirely), but I'm not recommending that you rush out and buy it unless you're looking for the campy style read that I mentioned.
