I picked up a copy of this on Kindle Unlimited. I decided to listen to the audiobook version of this one as I worked, got ready for work, etc.
I really enjoyed this book and, as I often feel about sequels, I really enjoyed the opportunity to get to visit with characters that I already knew. This gave me the chance to strengthen my fictional "relationships" with them.
Without wanting to be too spoilery, I'll say that this book went a little away from the witch theme and leaned a little heavily into the fae/faery theme. There's nothing wrong with this, of course, but it wasn't what I really expected. (I'm a rebel, and I didn't read the book description before I jumped into it, so that's on me.)
There was a section of this book where it was giving off some pretty strong ACOTAR vibes, and I didn't really care for that part of the book. That was, of course, mostly owing to the fact that (unpopular opinion incoming) I didn't really care for ACOTAR at all.
However, we eventually moved past the similarities, and I did enjoy the wrap-up of this book, even if it wasn't really what I expected it to be when I started the book.
This was a situation in which I honestly preferred the first book over the second book, but there were certainly some great things to be found in this book.
