I sat on this book for a long time. I thought the show on Netflix sounded interesting, and I always like reading books that accompany movies and shows. I bought the ebook, but it sat in my Kindle (as many do) for a long time without me touching it. I decided to start watching the show so that I could get a feel for the characters and the world.
I don't think I made it through even half of the first episode before I turned it off. That didn't make me anxious to start the book.
Then, the introduction to the book was (for me) difficult to wade through. I thought I wouldn't enjoy the book at all, so I let it sit for a while longer.
Finally, I decided to give it another shot and actually read it. I'm so glad I did! The book got so much better that I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. The book is made up of something like episodes (think traditional "epic hero" stories) where you meet various characters, and various monsters, and you see the Witcher as he moves through this world and deals with the problems presented to him as one of his profession.
If you like fantasy, I highly recommend giving this book a fair chance, even if you have to take a few breaks, like I did, while trying to get started. (I cannot, however, speak for the show.)
